Exactly.  You'll get afterimage no matter what you do.  We used to play
with these in high school, they're called post optic illusions.  If you
google for that plus the word "castle" you'll get a really good sample
of quite a few different ones.

Either way, I think it's just more noticeable because the post optic
effect of "dark" is "light", which I assume interferes more with the
light text.  But this is also just limited to what people are accustomed to.

The study referenced by my designer at work basically said that through
some unconscious effort, people on average just spent less time viewing
light-on-dark pages.  Correlation doesn't imply causation, but in this
case, we only care about the correlation, and in general I think having
people want to stay longer on our pages is a good thing.

I half expect a couple of the igoogle themes to do that.  Interesting
concept, but I agree with everyone else (including you) that it's just a
gimmic and might get annoying.

I think more important would be the contrast between pages other people
are looking at before/after visiting mythtv.org.  We don't want to
create contrast with "average" websites, including common linking pages
like search engines.

I think that Justin Hornsby is the keeper of the vector version of the
silver logo, too.  He might even have the full bubble version, which I'm
pretty sure he used in his 720p mythtv demo video.
