The two images you see in the masthead are the Earth at night and a radio
tower I pulled from a search on google images. It works almost equally well
with just a blue gradient but I felt that having some nice imagery makes it
look a little more solid. It also helps bring out the subtle transparency of
the main menu bar due to the varying contrast in colors underneath. It's
definitely not set in stone and if its what you like I can further inquire
about any licensing issues or can recreate it myself with vector art.
