[mythtv] status says that tuner is unavailable - but it isn't

i have my master backend with 2 350's and 2 dvb cards
i have been messing around installing 2.6.20 and v4l-dvb using mercurial in 
order to get them to play well with each other.
they used to but i had a power cut and since then no joy.

anyway, myth says that the 350's are available but the dvb cards are not.

but the problem is that i can switch to them and they work - they are 
available. even ater using them and switching back to a 350 input

anybody have any suggestions?
