I'm sure there will be a way to make pulse work on the box you can't get
working. Going back to alsa is easy enough.
I'll happily help you debug the pulse issue but as I'm not a F8 bod I
can't say exactly how to remove pulse... I think it should just be a
matter of removing the RPMs....
If you want help tho', stop by #pulseaudio. The author and Fedora
packager mezcalero is usually there and I'm coling
