[mythtv] Any news on combined release/debug compile type? (ticket #3589)

Hi,

with the new Ubuntu release coming, we'd like to be able to obtain good
backtraces from users. To achieve this, we'd like to introduce a new
compile type. I added that as a patch to ticket #3589 a while back.


So, I mean to ask: has anybody had time to take a closer look at that
ticket? I guess we're more comfortable with backporting something from
trunk than making big changes to the build system completely on our own.
It'd probably make it easier to get the the new compile type into Ubuntu
as well if it's committed to trunk if the Ubuntu archive guys have to
ackknowledge the upload (which I'm not sure about becuase I don't deal
with them).

Feedback would be appreciate.
