timestamp outputs heaps of stuff and thus could slow down the realtime
behaviour of something critical.

cant hurt. maybe a diff between the 2 modes (timestamp and no timestamp and
see if the nontimestamp stuff is different in any significant way.
put them somewhere and Ill grab them when I can.
