[mythtv] httpcomms support for SSL?

I'm working on a not-ready-for-release-yet plugin, which uses a fair bit
of HTTP. I'm using the Httpcomms class, but it doesn't seem to support
SSL. That's mainly because QHttp in QT3 doesn't implement SSL at all.
MythBrowser seems to use KDE HTTP libraries to display a browser widget,
which isn't really what I want because I need to process the result of
the HTTPS GET in my code.
Has anyone else done anything else which uses HTTPS in a MythTV plugin?
Would I be reinventing the wheel if I looked into how to implement this
