as the ticket is closed, there really is no need to comment
however i wills say that the backend has not crashed in a while and i 
have not changed the system (other than installing more recent versions 
of mythtv)
so i suspect there was a bug in myth (the dvb setup is fine - used by 
lots of STB hardware)
