That's exactly the reason, generally speaking, people shouldn't be
using trunk and trunk features, except for development.  Trunk boxes
should *only* be dev or test boxes, and choosing to do otherwise needs
to be a calculated decision.  It's also a good reason for there being
a slightly higher barrier to entry to using them, as it compels the
user to carefully consider the steps as they take them (and maybe run
across people who can explain why it might not be the best decision
for them).

The whole point of the new UI features is freedom to lay things out
however you like, at whatever size you like, including or excluding
whichever widgets you like.  At least four of us already have started
on new, wildly varying themes, none of which look or behave anything
like one another.   In a sense, there's no "new UI" for MythVideo at
all, as you can expect each one to be totally different from here on
out.  If you would like it back the old way, it should be a few hours
work at most to lay it out the way you like.
