Thanks for the information I think I am understanding the original
reply a bit better now.

I am using a MCE IR receiver.

Are you able to point me to a page which could help me setting up the
remote not using LIRC but as a keyboard driver as that would give me
much better as all applications would work just like with a keyboard
attached then?

(I also have an ATI Remote Wonder (v1) but I use LIRC for that also
for the other frontend.)
