Not in any way to detract from what Robert said - obviously using trunk is
at your own risk.

But, I'm running trunk on my main system - backend and frontend. I use
mythmusic, mythvideo, and a fair bit of recording/playing. I'm finding it
OK, and the WAF is reasonable. There are bugs, and I'm keeping close
watch on what upgrades I do (for example, I haven't upgraded in the last
week, and won't because mythmusic looks to be borked at the moment).

Having said that, I use Nvidia on backend and frontend, and my menus are
generally OK (backend has a 4:3 monitor, and some things are funny with
Terra), mythvideo has some funnies in playing .iso files (most play, some
don't) and some problems with some codecs. I mostly play DVD, and that is
kind of annoying, but not beyond hope. If I was really upset I could
shift to mplayer for DVD playback on the frontend so as to keep the WAF up
- but it hasn't been that bad.

There are no violently offensive behaviours at the moment. On QT menu
painter I find the mythvideo fanart doesn't go away if the next video
doesn't have one, and I use QT because VNC won't paint if I use opengl.
But if that is my biggest problem, I can hardly complain. I was also
getting seg faults in Jan, and that went away reasonably early - and I
think the full delete and recompile did it (I added this into my upgrade
script).

Seeing the level of coding you're doing, I would have thought you would be
well placed to run trunk - the minor issues that go on would probably both
be manageable for you, and also probably be things you could fix if you
were so inclined. I agree with you that the backporting looks like a lot
of work. Of course, you have built up a following of folks who'll want
you to continue that.....
