Just what processing do you think is going on? Both MythTV and VDR dump
digital recordings straight to disk. Anything more would be foolish.
The index building is a read-only process that stores its results on the
database. It does not affect the recording file in any manner. This
index is needed for rapid seeking, what good is it if you don't have it
prior to playback?
