In my case when i have tested eit,
sometimes eit collection is never started
(you need to wait a minimum of 5-10
minutes or so until it starts) and
sometimes it starts right away.

I have a backend log with -v eit saved
from my dev box with this error if
that helps.
The log is pretty clean from other stuff
since it is a dev box.
I haven’t restarted the backend yet so it
still is stuck since a day or two
ago.

But I guess you also need to reproduce it
to see where the problem is.

Perhaps I can connect gdb to the running
instance and make some backtraces?
Note that I have a few minor additions in
the eit fixup on my dev box since
I was working on a new guide fixup.
But don’t think those should be the cause
of this problem.

If I understand the problem correctly
-- that if tuning fails, it never tries to
do an EIT scan again -- then the attached
patch should fix the problem. If anyone
is able to test this patch and report
success, I will try and get it into 0.27.
As expected, I was able to trigger the bug by
disconnecting the antenna from the ATSC card until the
EITScanner switched to a new channel. This causes the
ActiveScanning to stop at which point I reconnected the
antenna. The Active EIT scanner isn't started again
unless a recording occurs on that card (or Live TV is
selected for that channel).

I then applied the patch, and again disconnected the
antenna until active scanning was disabled. I then
reconnected the antenna and after a few minutes, Active
EIT scanning started again, so the patch fixes the
problem I'm seeing.

Thanks!

Thank you for testing this. Is there a ticket for this
problem? If not, can you create one ( http://code.mythtv.org/trac/newticket
). I will get this fix committed sometime today.
I believe it is the same problem described in ticket # 11520, at
least that's why I didn't create a new ticket. If you don't think
its the same, I'll create a new ticket for this.
