Actually I normally prefer forums as well however, I'm not sure it fits the
scheme in this case IMO. It would be nice sometimes to have a general forum
but the problems I've seen before with starting a forum site with a project
with this much activity and complexity is many solutions/questions get lost in
the frey of trying to organize something that actually gets hindered by a
forum.

I have a feeling there would be a large split of people geared to use the
forum and people who would rather just keep the mailing list and it would
almost be like a forked (or borked) support mechanism rather then a solution.
I guess the real thing might be identifying where you think the mailing list
and archives fail and then see if a forum actually adresses anything.

I've been wrong before however  :)
