I fixed my issues by reverting back to my original firmware. I used the
latest and greatest and started to get these issues. I use my cards for
other things (videolan) and those applications were having the same
problems. If you are around when it starts writing a zero length file.
Stop myth and try from the command line:

cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg
It should fill up with mpg video. For mine it didnt do anything. I went
to my previous firmware and everything is fine now

It was off topic, several months ago but, it no longer seems to be off
topic!

They now seem to be closely related, and not specifically ivtv or
mythtv, case in point, my IVTV drivers were fine until ~.12, then I
started having big problems with ivtv.

I dont see all these problems when using cat /dev/video0 or /dev/video1
they are specific to mythtv. I'm not longer able to set the resolution
or audio bitrates with test_ioctl, myth seemed to override them.

Now I've got it fixed, by upgrading ivtv, but ghosting is back again,
the ivtv drivers are seriously crap lately, they were pretty good, but
went way way backwards.

The only way I was able to fix, without having either broken audio, or
broken video, or 0 byte files, or completely crashing my system (SMP bug
in ivtv) was to downgrade myth and ivtv to November 1st, all problems
went away!

I'm waiting for ivtv to catch up to mythtv, right now they appear to be
incompatible. I did finally get it to work, with a patch that was
posted to the ivtv list, that fixes the tinny audio, on top of current
CVS, but I have ghosting again, they fixed that MONTHS ago, and now it's
back.

As far as I can tell, the Jens Axboe code was split back before the
ghosting was fixed, or they reinserted the ghosting back into the cvs :(

I'm waiting on upgrading myth to .12+, I'll wait till I see positive
posts about the ivtv drivers, I'm being more cautious now.
