the componets I used (all from RS, http:rswww.com) and their RS product
numbers are:

IR Receiver: 267-8330
4.7uF Capacitor: 224-4319
Voltage Regulator: 189-1295
4k7 Resistor: 144-324
Diode: 446-8551

plus some lengths of wire which i had lying around.

when you solder it all together it ends up being about a cubic centimeter in
size, which fits very nicely behind the plastic IR window in the front of my
mini-itx case.
