Ah, okay. That would do it. But then why not start w/Gentoo instead of
Red Hat, to really get into the spirit of compiling everything? :)

ATrpms kernel rpms already have that (though I'm sure other things you
want aren't included).

Whew. Messy. But yes, that'll definitely give you a better grasp of the
internals than installing everything from RPM. I'm still debating what
distro to go with on my secondary MythTV system...
