[mythtv-users] ALSA Problem?

Hi, Scott. I'm jumping into this thread a bit late, but I think I might be
able to help. I had exactly the same symptoms when I first set up my
RH9-based system. I could get sound out of my SoundBlaster Live card by
using aplay, and I could get sound from mythtv when using the onboard sound
from the motherboard, but I *couldn't* get sound out of the SoundBlaster
when running mythtv.

I can't quite remember how I figured this out, but something Jarod wrote to
me earlier sparked a thought that my modules.conf might be screwed up. In
my modules.conf, I had three lines that looked like:

  alias sound-slot-1 i810_audio
  post-install sound-slot-1 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >
/dev/null 2>&1 || :
  pre-remove sound-slot-1 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S > /dev/null
2>%1 || :

I noticed these during the install but figured that they were OK to leave in
since they pertained to slot1 instead of slot0. I can't say that I
understand completely why I was wrong, but when I commented out these three
lines all of my alsa problems disappeared!

I hope this helps you, too...

Peter
