[mythtv-users] About ready to give up on g200

I haven't tried the TV-Out stuff yet. I was trying to get tv in to work
first. Maybe I should go through all the hoops need to get tv out
working? Was there anything outside of the tv out howto that you had to
do? I can get xawtv, and I can get mythtv to use this card, but when
the screen, not just the xawtv has artifacting all over the place.

Thanks
Ben

I, too, am in your boat, but I am not ready to throw mine out yet.

I was able to get artifact free video using stock XFree86 mga driver
with a framebuffer driver "in tandem" (much like the TV-Out howto
describes).

Using xawtv --hwscan, I would see the two XV devices, the second being
the mga's offering. The second xv device gave me artifact-free xawtv
display.

As for mythtv, if I run iv4l1 first, I can get decent hardware
compression and software decompression. I say decent because I am
really not satisfied yet. there are no error-related artifacts, just
blockiness in general. I am using a P4 celeron 1.8 with a G200-TV AGP,
8 MB. I'm still using PC133 memory, haven't upgraded to DDR 2700 stuff
yet. That may be a difference.

My current problem is that with my MythRV setup working, my mythvideo
bombs because mplayer chokes. I'm using the mga_vid/framebuffer
playback as described in the mplayer docs, and I get nearly perfect
playback, but with memory corruptions, weird flashes, artifacts, etc. I
was ready to throw in the towel when I noticed that mplayer is *perfect*
after I rv4l1 the mga tuner stuff.

So, I can either use mythtv pretty well, or mythvideo really well, but
not both from the same session. I have noticed that my scheduled MythTV
recordings play back with the same artifacts that I used to see in
mplayer, so I am curious to see which problems are related. Perhaps
this weekend.
