Try running your XMLTV grabber manually.  If you're in North America, the
command is:

	nice -n 19 tv_grab_na -days 8 -offset 0 --config-file
${HOME}/.mythtv/<video source>.xml

where ${HOME} is the home directory of the user that normally runs
mythfilldatabase, and <video source> is the name of your video source.  This
command is not exactly the way mythfilldatabase does things, but it should
give you a general idea of how fast your listings grabber does things.
(mythfilldatabase actually does the following, at least for North America:
grab tommorrow (-days 1 -offset 1), then grab today and the next 7 days in a
loop (-days 1 -offset i [increment i from 0 thru 8])  So, by grabbing 8 days
at once, you'd actually get a lower bound on the *fastest* time you can
expect from mythfilldatabase.
