[mythtv-users] xawtv/myth video quality

The video in xawtv is straight off the card, think 640x480 (interlaced)
24bit per pixel, 30 fps . . . lots and lots of bandwidth. To get the
video on the hard drive it has to be encoded real time either by
software or hardware down to a reasonable data rate . . . the video
you see in Myth is actually playback of the compressed stream.

If you want best quality, push your resolution up to full 720x480
resolution (NTSC) and increase your bit rate. This may take a lot of
processing power and will definetely take lots of disk space, DVD's are
recorded at 3-4 GB/hour and full 1080i HDTV MPEG2 stream will be up
near 9GB/hour.
