Well ... I remember them as costing about $US5 ... but the one I have is a 
DB25, so you need to add the cost od DE9-DB25 adapters on both ends. (More 
history: I still have what I used to call my "RS232 fishing rod" -- a stack 
of about 10 devices, including gender changers, a port debugger, a breakout 
box, and at one end a cable,, that I used to use to debug serial-connection 
problems. More recently, I added to it an RS232 tap, which let me connect a 
second PC to monitor traffic in both directions. All of this was a big a 
pain as it sounds like, and I'm happy that these days, that stuff gathers 
dust.)

At this point, I do feel obliged to remind you that the site with the 
wiring diagrams also wells the required cable for $US15. Were I doing this 
project, I'd have bought one in the first place.
