My swap table is approx 450 MB, it rarely exceeds 200MB of usage though

How big is your swap partition, I'm sure that linux handles swap better
than windows, but I'm pretty sure that having an oversized swap
partition can cause an excessive amount of wasted memory. Something to
do with the swap address tables or something. can someone tell me if I'm
way off base. I know windows doesn't recommend more than triple your
ram to prevent this.

I see the same behavior. Also running on 256 (RDRAM) on a P4 2.4 Ghz
with Mandrake 9.1 and PVR-250.

I notice freezes every now and then, which require the application to be
restarted. I also notice that if I leave it on live TV for a while (few
hours maybe) then Myth seems incredibly slow to respond. For instance
if I hit the back button at this point (from live TV) it responds a
couple seconds later, and the screen refreshes very slowly. I don't
have the memory/CPU usage stats but I'll try to gather them soon.

I wasn't sure if this was somehow specific to my particular machine and
setup, therefore I didn't write in to the forum.

I'm building a new machine soon for Myth which will have 512 megs, it'll
be interesting to see how it compares.

Ok, it seems as though I have been able to isolate some memory problems.
Somewhere in the documentation, mythtv or ivtv said it needs atleast 256
MB of RAM. This is a BARE minimum I found out the hard way. Just
running mandrake 9.1 with KDE + the mythfilldatabase I am burning a
whopping 218MB of ram + 14-35% processor time. With my onboard video
enabled (64 MB of shared memory. yuck) I get random pauses during live
TV playback. Its obvious 512 or > is required to run this program
correctly. Btw, I've got a duron 800 (utter crap, I know) with 256 MB
ram/ Hauppauge 250

This may be old news to lots of you, but I thought it was worth sharing.
