Especially if your "deadline" "is in about 4 days...".

You probably will have to do a kernel install if the rpms dont work
for you.  See the mythtv docs about installing kerenel in the section
about LIRC [remote control].  I suggest the ones from kernel.org as they fixed
my LIRC and ALSA problems.
