"Pre-roll", as other messages have used, is the accepted term from
professional video processing.  It refers to the fact that many old VTR
(video tape recorders) needed a second or two to get the tape up to stable
speed.  Spool-up time, if you will.  Similarlily, when making movies, the
director cues the sound to start recording, and the soundman replies,
"speeding," once the equipment has been started and the tape is up to
speed. 

But then, for MythTV, something simple like "recording start time" with
options "as listed", or "N minutes early" or "N minutes late" might be
easier to understand (where N is 1, 2, ..., 10).  And the "recording over
time" might be adjusted to match, eg, "recording end time" with the same
options as for the start.

Just an idea.
