I accidentally deleted your private message regarding configuring
multiple outputs, so I don't have your return address.  Please
email me again... :)

As a summary:
I'm using TV-out (twinview: both TV/Monitor) with the NVidia driver 
on my GeForce4 Ti 4600 and I setup the modes so that I can turn the
TV and monitors on/off by cycling thru video modes using the standard
XFree86 mode hotkeys.  It is an nvidia specific setup, but if your
card supports some kind of twinview, it might be possible to configure
it in a similar fashion.
