[mythtv-users] Digital cable...

Doesn't look like anyone's responded so I figured I'd see if I could
help. If I remember right the DVB cards are for the European free
satellite system. For digital cable you may have better luck with a
wintv-D card. They supposedly support digital cable, but I don't know
much about them. The other option(if you're only worried about local
channels) is to just plug it into an analog card. Most digital cable
systems still send the channels under 100 as analog. So you wouldn't be
able to get say discovery channel recorded, but NBC would work fine.
It's what I'm doing currently. Anyway, I hope that helps. Good luck.

Subject: [mythtv-users] Digital cable...
Hi all,
I've been reading up on these DVB cards from Hauppauge. They sound cool,
but
out of curiosity, would they be able to do Digital Cable as well?
I'm honestly not sure how my Digital Cable box works, or even what data
format my provider uses. It's a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200 box, if
that helps, and there is no satelite involved. The input is just like a
normal cable except that the box is needed to decode the digital stream.
I'm pretty sure this format is incompatible with whatever format the
Happauge DVB cards expect, but I just thought I'd ask you guys first :)
Is anyone aware of a PC card that can decode the digital cable stream
directly?
Thanks in advance!
Desmond
