[mythtv-users] Digital cable...

There could be another option
(c) Digital Cable Box to output mpeg stream it gets from the cable, so no
need for a tuner card at all.

BTW there's a data port on my cable box (Motorola DCT2224). Anyone knows
what it is for?

My understanding (FWIW) is that 'Digital Cable' is not a standard; each
cable provider has its own implementation. That's why you can't buy a
generic Digital Cable STB, you have to get one from your cable provider.
It's also why you can't use any of the 3rd party tuner cards to tune digital
cable directly. What would be need would be for either (a) digital cable to
settle on a standard, or (b) your cable provider getting into the tuner card
business. I don't see either as likely, so if you want to use your tuner
card directly, you're stuck with channels < 100 or 125, whatever the limit
for analog is.
