I haven't seen any mention of it lately. Actually, I don't recall anybody
talking about transcoding _to_ MPEG2, probably because so many people seem to
have the PVR cards that do hardware MPEG2 encoding. I usually see discussions
about transcoding _from_ MPEG2 to something else.
For me, no transcoding is needed, and I was thinking of adding a screen that
would simply burn a recorded program to dvd. However, I usually want to do
some editing, so it hasn't been a priority for me to automate the process of
just dumping a file to a DVD. (It's just a matter of demuxing, remuxing with
NAV markers, then dvdauthor, mkisofs, cdrecord.) It's the editing step before
all that I'm unable to do on Linux, and I have no interest in wasting DVD
space on commercials.

Ironic for me, since that's a personal reason of mine to _not_ make it easier.
I'd end up with hundreds of DVD discs containing stuff we'd never watch. ;)
That's just humor, I do see the need for that ease of use.
When I have a way to edit commercials out of my recorded MPEG2 programs using
the cutlist, I will definitely automate burning (X)SVCDs and DVDs from my
Myth box if somebody else hasn't done it for me. But right now, I can't even
edit the video manually, much less automate it. I don't think it's far in the
future though. :)
