I found the documentation quite detailed. Quoting directly from nuvexport 
itself:

This is the most basic export format, and is intended for moving files between
different backend setups.  It merely copies the nuv file to the specified 
output directory, and extracts all related database info into a matching .sql 
file.
 
To import this into another myth setup, just copy the nuv to your video 
directory and run:
 
        mysql mythconverg < sql_file_name.sql
