[mythtv-users] converting the recorded .nuv-files from mythtv to
something else.

hello all. :-)
I'm another very happy user of mythtv, but I have one thing that
keeps nagging me -- I'd like to convert those .nuv (nuppelvideo as
far as I understand) to xvid or at least something playable with
mplayer. for the record, I'm running Gentoo (~x86 / "unstable") and
I have mythtv 0.12 in perfect yummy working condition.
now, I've tried the following:
$ transcode -x nuv -i 12_20031107173000_20031107180000.nuv -y xvid
transcode v0.6.11 (C) 2001-2003 Thomas Oestreich, 2003 T. Bitterberg
[transcode] auto-probing source 12_20031107173000_20031107180000.nuv (failed)
[transcode] V: import format | unknown (V=nuv|A=(null))
[transcode] V: import frame | 720x576 1.25:1
[transcode] V: bits/pixel | 0.174
[transcode] V: decoding fps,frc | 25.000,0
[transcode] A: import format | 0x2001 AC3/A52 [48000,16,2]
[transcode] A: export format | 0x55 MPEG layer-3 [48000,16,2] 128 kbps
[transcode] V: encoding fps,frc | 25.000,3
[transcode] A: bytes per frame | 7680 (7680.000000)
[transcode] A: adjustment | 0 at 1000
[transcode] V: IA32 accel mode | 3dnow (3dnow mmxext mmx asm)
[transcode] warning : no option -o found, encoded frames send to "/dev/null"
[transcode] V: video buffer | 10 @ 720x576
[import_nuv.so] v0.1.2 (2002-08-01) (video) YUV | (audio) PCM
(decoder.c) video codec not supported by import module
[transcode] failed to init import modules
[transcode] critical: plug-in initialization failed
which is slightly depressing. I've also installed Nuppelvideo
0.52a, but even that doesn't want to play the nuv-files with
nuvplay:
$ nuvplay 12_20031107173000_20031107180000.nuv
nuppelvideo file with w=480 and h=480 and fps=25.000000
frames=44922 realframes=44922 effdsp=32008.46
Segmentation fault
mythtv of course plays these things just fine. "file" calls these
files "data", something that doesn't help much either. I've also
tried turning off immediate transcoding in every profile, without
any apparent success.
any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated!
