I am having the exact same issue. I have a SB Live and I get this error message.
Why does it think it can't find a card? I even tried in single user mode and got the same result.

[root at pvr root]# modprobe snd-emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.20-20_29.rh9.at/updates/sound/snd-emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
