Apparently, I didn't know it was need either! ;)

Once I knew that it *should* work (thanks to you), then I just did a quick 
google to see if I could find out if any other modules were required. 
Although not explicitly stated, I saw a few references to the Human Interface 
Devices module and thought I would try it.

Whilst I have run custom kernels in the past, I tend to avoid it on my 
everyday machines. I'd rather just run with the stock kernel from my distro 
(in this case Mandrake) and then keep a small directory of patches and 
upgrades to be applied should I need to upgrade and/or reinstall.

I guess I'm just lazy and boot times haven't been too much of an issue.

Of course, all that will change when MythTV goes into "production use" in the 
front room. Then, I will try and eliminate every last millisecond of wasted 
boot time! ;)
