Hmm... I'd remove all of the alsa modules from memory (using 'modprobe
-r', obviously), make sure you don't have any pre- or post- entries in
/etc/modules.conf concerning alsa, then check your modules.conf
settings... mine are:
# ALSA configuration
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd major=116 cards_limit=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
options snd-emu10k1 index=0 id="Emu10k1" extin="0x000f" extout=0x1f0f
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
#
## ALSA-OSS compatibility
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd-pcm-oss dsp_map=0 adsp_map=3
options snd-ac97-codec enable_loopback=1
Do a depmod, fire up any app that plays music, test if you get sound.
Then do the alsactl restore and test it again... right now I'm *very*
happy to be free of L/R cables coming out of my myth box...
I've found Alsa to be incredibly fussy about its settings - that's why I
keep multiple copies of the aforementioned asound.state file - just in
case things get weird... (and sometimes they do with Myth - though I
can't duplicate it...)
