[mythtv-users] Why I have to resolve recording conflicts?

Hello,

I am confused about the screenshot "Browse and resolve recording conflicts." 
in
http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythFeatures is a screenshot 
Why do I need this?
It is not possible to watch one TV-Channel an record another? And if this is 
possible, why it is not possible
to record more than one channel at a time?
There are hardware restrictions (I/O-bandwith of disks, cpu-consumption,..) or 
restrictions by the tv-card?
