I downloaded the drivers from the nvidia site this morning and ran the following:

./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run -k=2.4.20-20_29.rh9.a
t
This seems to have let the nvidia drivers compile properly, but I can't check cause I am at work, and don't know how to set up VNC properly to load KDE for me when I log in, so I will know tonight.

Michael,

I'm part of the group that's having nvidia and kdeinit
problems. Good to see I'm not the only one!

As for you unable to do a installation of # apt-get
install nvidia-graphics-kmdl-$KERNEL, that's actually
a step that I was going to contact Jarod about in
regards to his documentation. I found that setting the
$KERNEL variable followed by a apt-get update allows
for the nvidia-graphics-kmdl-$KERNEL installation.

Word of warning, even with the install, until Jarod or
someone else comes up with a fix, it's not going to
work. Believe me, many of us have tried.

BTW, when X crashes do you get the diag screen? I'm
wondering what error you are getting? Please refer to
my posts to see if there's a match.
