Depends on how fast your system is and what encoding options you use. 
My dual athlon 1900+ (nuvexport checks for multiple cpu's) takes about
3-4 hours to encode a 22 minute show (what was originally a half-hour
show) with denoise turned on.  It's at least an hour less with denoise
disabled.

All of the tasks run as `nice -n 19` so they won't interfere with
anything, but that also means that they'll slow down if you're using
things.

Unfortunately, mpeg2enc is at least half the speed of comparable windows
encoders (a half-hour show, with denoise would take about 1-2 hours in
tmpgenc).  Denoise causes a SIGNIFICANT speed decrease, though.  I've
enabled it by default because encoding from an already-encoded format
creates a lot of noise.

So yes, you're running with "expected" norms.  mpeg2enc just sucks (but
it's free and runs in linux).
