[mythtv-users] PVR-250 live tv and recording playback goes slow

I recently upgraded to a PVR-250 from an ATI TV Wonder VE and am
impressed with the quality of the recordings... however, there are some
serious problems with playback since the switch. These are driving my
wife nuts.

I am running on CVS from Sep 7th.
I have my bitrate set using:
/usr/local/sbin/ivtv -c bitrate=4500000,bitrate_peak=6000000
NVidia MX440SE with 4363 drivers (same problem with 4496 drivers).

The problem is that video playback often gets very seriously slow, yet
the CPU is not being consumed much when this happens. Whenever live TV
is selected, initially, the playback is slow (around 1/10th speed for
1-2 seconds) then picks up to full speed shortly after that. If
channels are changed, the slow playback comes back and stays.

When playing recordings, sometimes when resuming a recording whose
position has been saved, it starts slow. The only way to get full speed
is to exit out of the recording and re-enter. FF/RW can trigger this as
well.

This doesn't affect playback of RTJpeg or MPEG4 files.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Roy
