manually invoking mythtranscode (pressing X while watching the
recording) will process the cutlist without reencoding the show (please
correct me if I'm wrong about this - does it only not reencode if the
transcode and recording profiles are the same?). Either way, it
processes the cutlist.

while in edit mode (press M while watching), you can press Z and if the
commercials have been flagged (either manually by running mythcommflag,
or if autoflag is enabled in the setup), they will be imported as a
cutlist, which you will be able to see in the editor. I've found that
this isn't entirely accurate, and I have to move the cut points a few
frames forward/back, but doing this it takes me about 30 seconds to
create a cutlist for a show (as long as that "rebuffering" error doesn't
creep up and cause myth to hang).

grab nuvexport from http://forevermore.net/myth/ because as far as I
know, mythmkmovie hasn't been updated to take advantage of the new
fifodir settings in mythtranscode, and mplayer/mencoder haven't been
updated to handle myth's alterations to the nuv file format.
