Has anyone looked at BeyondTV from snapstream.com? I would be interested in
hearing what other folks thought of this package and how it compares to
MythTV. Thanks.

I tried it before settling on MythTV. If all you want is basic recording and
timeshifting it may be good enough for you. If you would like to be able to
listen to your music, get the current forcast, rip DVD's, play video games
and more then you probably should make the effort to set up MythTV.

Beyond runs on windows and is pretty much plug and play. On the other hand,
MythTV runs on linux which is both good and bad. Its good in that once
running it is very stable and will run for weeks at a time. The flip side is
it runs on Linux and is usually quite a bit of work to set up. Think of it
as a learning experience and you will probably be ok. :)

One thing to note, if your motherboard is based on a VIA chipset you will
probably have problems getting MythTV to run reliably because of a DMA issue
with the chipset. This is not a issue in windows as they have done some
tweaks to get around the issue. 

Another thing to note, BeyondTV is not free and MythTV is. Beyond has its
own tv guide service that is only good if you live in the usa, MythTV uses
xmltv which has support in most areas of the world.

They are both good, and each has its strong points. Give Beyond a try for a
week or so and then load a copy of KnoppMyth and see which you prefer.
