Well, I dropped a machine off this weekend.  Good news is that the stream
grabber program is able to pull a transport stream even when the cable box
is tuned to an analogue channel.  Bad new is that I apparently have some
kind of library problem... After the cable box is restarted, running the
stream grabber program dosen't capture anything.  But running it from
my friend's laptop, it captures just fine, and then every other time I
run it from the new PC, it also captures with no problems.  Just another
detail to work out.

I tried to hack something together to get it working quickly.  I edited the
database to make it think I had a pcHDTV card, and used the vloopback module
so I could use the output of the grabber program, feed it though the
vloopback device, and the data should appear on /dev/video1.  Unfortunately,
it seems the vloopback module is expecting data to arrive in descrite frames,
not as a stream.  So I guess I'll have to do it the right way.

Anyway, I thought I'd let people know that I'm still working on it.  Now to
read all I can about firewire...
