Well, the ivtv driver compiles and runs on 2.6. but it isn't for long
yet. A long time there was a seperate patch for 2.6. and lots of
problems with non vanilla 2.4. kernels with 2.6. backports in them. So I
wouldn't try it at the moment. On the other hand I run 2.4. on all the
machines here (which is quite a lot). My workstation still has 2.4.23
but that's more due to the fact that I didn't have a good reason to
reboot it into 2.4.25

I'd like to use 2.6. but I don't believe it is stable enough for my
means.

But check the ivtv-dev list for more info on ivtv and 2.6. there are
some people out there who use it with 2.6 but I wouldn't recommend it to
someone who has (implicitely) stated that he's not yet up to compiling a
lot of stuff.
