Hmm, that's a new one. To make sure, you're running... lirc 0.7pre4 right?
(the version in messages is incorrect, you have to check the RPM or source
tarball version)

Did you build from source or from an RPM?

Unplug the transceiver. rmmod lirc_mceusb lirc_dev. Plug it back in. If
lirc_mceusb doesn't load, modprobe it, and see if anything pops up in
messages. It sounds like it's not happy with the transceiver somehow, and
the driver should make some noise if it knows there is a problem (not always
the case).
