The blue LED can be easily disconnected if it bother you. I still have mine
hooked up.

As for the paint, I used Rust-Oleum Metallic series 7271 Silver spraypaint I
got at the hardware store. I wasn't quite happy with the sheen on it, so I
knocked it down a bit with steel wool, and it matches the blanks perfectly.
I'm really really satisfied with that. It matches waaaaay better than an
aluminum faceplate cover could.

Make sure that you take everything off carefully and remove any clear
plastic pieces, too. Masking tape is useful, too, for, uhhh, masking.
Imagine that.
