Any time you lower resolution, you technically lower the quality. Of
course, since you're going to transcode down to a higher resolution than
you are using now, you'll see a difference!

Subject: [mythtv-users] transcoding resolution

Hi everybody,

In my setup, I am recording in mjpeg with my Matrox RRG, and
automatically transcode when its done to mpeg4 to save space. I have
always transcoded using the same resolution as the source (352x240).

Could I record at a higher resolution (say 708x480) and then transcode
to something lower (say 512x384)? Would the transcode handle this or
would my quality suffer?

Mark
