To be honest, I've never fooled with transcoding.  didn't seem worth the 
trouble since the machine could do MPEG4 right off the bat no problem.
I'm running roughly 60-70% full hard drive right now with the inability to 
archive shows.  RTJPEG might push me over the edge if I can't get all the 
shows transcoded soon enough.  I'm recording about 5-6 hours a day, 
just keeping up by watching and deleting same amount for the various family 
members.

My system specs are an Epox KT400A board, Kingston cas2.5 ram 512mb, 
Amd Barton 2500+, WinTv401.  Used to run at about 35% with 544 x 480/4000 
bitrate, jitter reduction on, and most everything else off.
