I didn't intend to take credit for that phrase.  I got it from
"Rumpole of the Bailey".  Whether John Mortimer (Rumpole's
author) borrowed it from somewhere else, I don't know.

However, there were several Rumpole TV series, so we're almost
back on-topic again...
