[mythtv-users] Multiple mythbackend processes

I've noticed that much of the time I've got quite a few
mythbackend processses running (even when the box is idle).
Sometimes there are 10-15 of them. For instance, my box has
been up for about a day, and I've got 11 instances:

  427 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  455 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  456 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  457 ? S 0:09 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  458 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  459 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  460 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  461 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  462 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  463 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
  464 ? S 0:03 \_ /usr/local/bin/mythbackend

I presume this is normal, but what are all the children for?

I've also noticed that sometimes when I do an "lsof" on the box
when it's idle, the various mythbackend processes will have a
whole bunch of different .nuv files open.

I'm also a bit surprised to see that mythbackend is an X11/Qt
app. Since the backend doesn't have a user-interface (right?),
why does it need X11/Qt?
