When you (or whomever) compiled your kernel, did you say yes to 
I2C_DEBUG_CORE, I2C_DEBUG_ALGO, I2C_DEBUG_BUS, and/or I2C_DEBUG_CHIP?  
Check your .config file to see if they're enabled.
