The "two line" problem sounds like the symptoms I get when trying to
use a CD-R or CD-RW in the XBox drive.  DVD-R's don't have that
problem.  Some XBox drives just aren't very reliable for all
recordable media types.  Try burning gentoo live onto a DVD-R.
